I was pleasantly surprised when I tried this Chicken Tikka Masala sauce by Asda. I am a die hard fan of making things from scratch and don’t often venture into the ready made sauces aisle, however, on this occasion I am glad I did.
There is a little sealed container at the top of the lid with some dried spices, which really added some flavour to my paneer. Instead of chicken, I decided to try it with some fresh paneer for a change. I would strongly suggest marinating the paneer or chicken with the dried spices from the container, adding some minced ginger and garlic before leaving it to marinate for an hour or so.
I sauted some finely chopped onions in a pot, out of sheer habit and added the marinated paneer to this. Cook for a couple of minutes before adding the sauce. Cover the pot and simmer for 10 minutes. Add a generous sprinkling of finely chopped coriander leaves, and enjoy!
For my second attempt, I used boneless chicken instead of paneer, and I also added a knob of cream on top before serving. For pure ‘real’ Indian food lovers you would be adding some salt, fresh green chillies and maybe a little more garam masala for it to really hit that spot. That is the only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star rating, as I felt it needed a little bit more seasoning, for my palette.
